True Story #12
Posted 09.05.2008
I am from the U.K. This is my story. I'd met Cathy whilst I was engaged to another woman. Cathy, I thought was my soulmate,
the woman of my dreams. We'd been together for 12 months when she told me she was pregnant. I was ecstatic with joy! Her
next words were "We can't have this baby." She had 2 kids already and had just become a grandmother. Everything I tried
wasn't good enough: get married, sell both our houses and buy one of our own. All I got was she'd lose her job. I did my
bit (because I loved her) and went with her to the clinic (sounds weird typing that seeing as I'm against abortion).
After the procedure (it's hard to type the A word), I hit the bottle, my career suffered, etc. She was relieved. I left
her 6 months later. I was staying to help her with any post feelings (there weren't many!). It's been three and a half
years and I still drink too much, have anxiety problems, been very promiscous since, and get very angry and bitter. I'll
always want both of them. She chose what she wanted. I chose what I wanted (was in control of) to be a Dad.
Commentary
Here's a story similar to many others. In a situation where the man embraces fatherhood and is excited to be a dad, his feelings and desires are pushed aside. He has no say whether his child gets to live or die. Then he's just expected to go on with his life like nothing ever happened.
